All the Latest Databricks Updates You Should Know (July 2025)
Databricks has been moving fast in 2025 — pushing out major enhancements across AI, governance, BI, and platform infrastructure. In this article, I’ll walk you through the most recent and important updates that are shaping the Databricks ecosystem.
- Lake base: Powering Intelligent Applications on the Lakehouse
(i) A fully-managed PostgreSQL compatible database that is integrated into the Lakehouse.
(ii) Lake base lets customer combine operational, analytical, and ML systems without building custom pipelines.
(iii) Lake base is a key new component of the Databricks Lakehouse Platform designed to make it easier for customers to serve insights through data-driven applications.
This matters because customers are already building apps like recommendation engines, chat assistants, and workflow trackers. However, today, they need to move data out of Databricks and stitch together external databases to do so. Lakebase removes that friction.
With Lakebase, customers can now:
- Build and serve intelligent applications directly on Delta Lake
- Skip custom ETL pipelines and external infrastructure
- Use familiar Postgres tools with zero operational overhead
